Madhav Gadgil to be this year’s recipient of the Karma Award
The 2019 Karma Award will be awarded to Dr. Madhav Gadgil, eminent ecologist and Head of the Western Ghats Ecology Expert Panel (WGEEP) or the 2010 Gadgil Commission. He founded the first biosphere reserve in India in the Nilgiris, is the founder of The Centre for Ecological Sciences, and has formerly served as the Prime Minister of India as part of the Scientific Advisory Council. He has also worked with the United Nations and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and has proposed an Environmental Education Curriculum in schools. Currently, a visiting professor at the University of Goa, his investigations into sensitive ecological areas and animal behaviour are well known and have won him various laurels including the Padma Shri. The MKR Foundation is proud to confer him with this honour at this juncture.
